FAQ's
What Is The Process?
Every project starts with your vision — and our goal is to transform that vision into a surface worthy of the space. As a countertop studio, we guide you through each decision, from material selection and edge profiles to layout and finish details, so everything is planned with intention.
Once we have approximate measurements, we’ll prepare an initial estimate and refine the scope with you. The next step is precision LT-2D/3D laser templating — a digital blueprint that captures every dimension with millimetre-level accuracy. Before fabrication begins, we review the seam plan and final layout together, so you know exactly what’s being built.
Your countertops are then fabricated in our Parksville studio, where a dedicated DT crew bench-finishes each piece for clean, consistent lines and precise joins. When materials are ready, that same team returns for installation — coordinated on your schedule and handled with care for your home or job site.
It’s a start-to-finish approach: measured, fabricated, and installed by one studio. No handoffs. No surprises.

Materials Guide
Choosing a countertop material can feel overwhelming—use DT CounterMatch—our pick-my-match tool—to quickly find the best material for your space: Quartz, Quartzite, Granite, Marble, Solid Surface (Corian®), or Dekton®.

SOLID SURFACE (Corian)
• What it is: Acrylic/mineral blend; non-porous; seams can be nearly invisible.
• Why people choose it: Seamless look with backsplash options and integrated sinks; warm to the touch; sanitary; repairable/refinishable.
• Care & maintenance: Lower heat tolerance than stone; can scratch (usually buffs out).
• Best for: Bathrooms; healthcare/hospitality; clean modern kitchens.

QUARTZ (Engineered Stone)

• What it is: About 93% ground quartz plus resin binders; non-porous.
• Why people choose it: Consistent patterns; very stain-resistant; low maintenance; wide color range.
• Care & maintenance: Use trivets for hot pots; prolonged UV exposure can discolor some colors (not ideal outdoors).
• Best for: Busy family kitchens; rentals; light commercial.
QUARTZITE (Natural Stone)

• What it is: Metamorphic natural stone; very hard; often marble-like in appearance.
• Why people choose it: Natural beauty with strong scratch and heat resistance.
• Care & maintenance: Seal periodically; a few stones marketed as "soft quartzite" behave more like marble—verify at selection.
• Best for: High-use kitchens; statement islands; elegant natural looks.
DEKTON (Ultra-Compact / Sintered Stone)

• What it is: Sintered mineral surface made under high heat and pressure; very dense and UV stable.
• Why people choose it: Exceptional heat, UV, stain, and scratch resistance; slim modern profiles; excellent outdoors.
• Care & maintenance: Extremely hard and rigid; sharp edges can chip if impacted; follow support and edge guidelines.
• Best for: Outdoor kitchens; modern thin-edge looks; heavy-duty surfaces.
GRANITE (Natural Stone)

• What it is: Durable igneous stone with varied patterns and colors.
• Why people choose it: Natural character; excellent heat resistance; long-lasting; suitable outdoors.
• Care & maintenance: Seal periodically; porosity varies by color; use pH-neutral cleaners.
• Best for: High-traffic kitchens; bar tops; outdoor kitchens and fireplaces.
MARBLE (Natural Stone)

• What it is: Calcite-based stone with iconic veining.
• Why people choose it: Timeless luxury; naturally cool surface (great for baking).
• Care & maintenance: Softer—can etch and scratch; expect a patina over time even with sealer.
• Best for: Bathrooms; vanities; baking stations; low-traffic or patina-friendly kitchens.

I Already Have Countertops but They’re Showing Wear — Can You Help?

Absolutely. Our Kitchen Refresh™ service is designed to bring new life to existing surfaces — preserving what you love while elevating the look, feel, and performance of your space. It’s a studio-built approach to restoration: precise, detailed, and tailored to your home.
We address common signs of age and wear, including chip repair, seam inspection, void fills, caulk renewal, edge refinement, and support checks. Each project begins with a detailed assessment so we can recommend the most effective solution for your surface.
Our tiered Kitchen Refresh™ packages range from targeted maintenance to comprehensive restoration and are supported by à la carte upgrades for specific needs. While not every surface can be restored to its original condition, most can be dramatically improved — often transforming a dated kitchen into one that feels newly installed. The best first step is to send us photos and a brief description so we can recommend the ideal refresh plan.
